Love Sarah

This big-hearted comedy drama is the kind of film that takes relatable real life tragedy and uses it as a respectful inspiration for something that will enhance people’s enjoyment in life. In this case it’s business woman Isabella (Shelley Conn) who, after her best friend tragically dies the morning they were supposed to open their new bakery together, joins up with her late friend’s troubled daughter Clarissa (Shannon Tarbet), estranged grandmother Mimi (Celia Imrie) and old flame and expert baker Matthew (Rupert Penry-Jones) to open it in her honour. Plot-wise the film doesn’t go many places that are massively surprising but what it has going for it is a real sense of affection for its characters, with a big dollop of endearing friendship and a welcome sprinkling of romance. It also has a lovely baked-in message of acceptance of difference as the bakery starts focusing on making cakes for the culturally diverse London population. It all combines together to make for a deliciously sweet movie in more ways than one.
